Steve
attended Manchester's High School of Art, Manchester College of Art and
Bretton Hall College. He taught painting for thirty years eventually becoming
head of the large art faculty at Oldham Comprehensive School. He took
early retirement to concentrate on his own work. Steve lives and works
in the Pennines, near Oldham, these hills having a major influence on
his work. The hills and valleys, combined with the man made environment,
give simple, individual shapes that combine into more complex images;
these shapes and patterns provide an ideal vehicle for Steve's work with
colour. His use of primary colours enhances and emphasises the fascinating
aspects of this special environment. His landscapes and still-life work
show influences of the Cubists, Fauves and others, all combined with his
own creativity and imagination. |
